The challenging and engaging work of Postcommodity – a collective of three indigenous artists, Raven Chacon, Kade L. Twist, and Cristóbal Martinez – is currently on display at Art in General, a nonprofit artists’ organization and exhibition space located in DUMBO. This installation, called Coyotaje, is an immersive experience that examines the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, highlighting the Border Portal’s militarization of space, its dehumanization of bodies, and the many perils and deceptions that immigrants face when crossing. This exhibition allows viewers to empathize; a valuable gift and resistance both to this social and political climate, to this culture that prefers to judge, to stereotype, and to dismiss the trials of so many. It is haunting and vital work.
